DONNIE R. WILHITE
FOUNDER
1938-2001

HISTORY
Those who knew Donnie Wilhite liked him. His
magnetic personality immediately put everyone at ease. His unique people
skills helped develop the outstanding reputation enjoyed by Wilhite Electric
today. Donnie Wilhite began his career as an electrician in
1960. After gaining ten years experience with Electric Contracting
Company, he suffered a back injury. It was during his recovery that Donnie
decided to go into business for himself. In the fall of 1975, with one
employee, one truck and a pocketful of hope, he formed Wilhite Electric Company. Ten
years later, the company moved into an 18,000 square foot facility located on a
three-acre site in the industrial district of Bossier City, Louisiana.
Today, Wilhite Electric has a staff of over seventy employees with more than 150
years of combined electrical contracting experience. Wilhite Electric is
now one of the premier electrical contractors in the South with an average
annual billing of over ten million dollars. Donnie's philosophy
remains the cornerstone of the company's ongoing success. "Always do
the highest quality work, be honest, surround yourself with the best people and
remember there are no jobs too small or too big." With his wife,
Doris, and their sons, Donnie put that philosophy to work. Today Wilhite
Electric is one of the largest and most respected businesses in the area. Donnie
was an outstanding citizen and community leader and is remembered fondly in
Northwest Louisiana for his generosity and good will. The Donnie Wilhite
Media Room at Centenary College of Louisiana and the Donnie Wilhite Memorial
Stakes Race run at Louisiana Downs are lasting tributes to a man who is truly
missed. |
